Frequently Asked Questions
-
Why is my project stuck in analysis?
The likely answer is your project is awaiting a human review step. Machine translation is almost instant. Reach out to the Translation CoE and a team member will finish the project.
-
Which file formats can I translate?
Nearly all file types and formats are supported provided the file contains machine readable text.
It is strongly recommended to use the source file where possible to preserve formatting.
Note: PDF files will be returned as Word files. This is to enable editing to account for text expansion that takes place during translation.
For a full list of file formats supported see: File formats supported in XTM Cloud

How do I assign a reviewers to a translation project?

How do I prepare InDesign packages for translation?
- Remove the reference source PDF from the translation package. Otherwise this file will also get translated by default. To add this as a reference file for In Country Reviewers, click + Add reference files and upload the PDF to that location.
- Choose one of two file formats for upload: INDD or IDML. INDD is the preferred option because it is a binary file that contains its own cache. By default, INDD files do not need to have preview files such as images uploaded since the system draws images from the file cache. If you upload an IDML file, the images are not viewable in visual mode for reviewers but need to be added as reference files. There is a prerequisite to that: you must ensure that the images in an INDD file are linked, otherwise they will not end up in the cache.
- Upload the zip folder containing either the IDML or INDD file, linked images and fonts. There is a UI and API limit to file size which is currently 150 MB.

What should I do if the target file fails to generate or does not look as expected?
If the target file fails to generate or does not look as expected, this could be for several reasons. One common issue is the misplacement or lack of inline tags, which can cause target file generation to fail. To fix this, contact the Translation CoE or translation project manager.
